Sindamynee Sattrohan's Obituary
Sindamynee “Mavis” Sattrohan, 84, of South Ozone Park, Queens, passed away on November 14 th ,
2024. Sindamynee Sattrohan was born on February 16th, 1940 in Enterprise, Guyana to her parents,
Pachi “Mudda” and George Virasami/Veerasammy.
Sindamynee grew up in Enterprise alongside her five siblings, Lucille, Leonard, Alfred, Jero, and Cecil.
She had a close bond with her mother, “Mudda”, whom taught her valuable life lessons and about Jesus.
As she became older, established from a solid faith from her mother, Sindamynee continued as a devote
Christian and was known as “Sister May” in the church. She began teaching the children in the church as
a Sunday school teacher. Sindamynee had a passion for gardening and had a fond love for flowers,
leading her to maintain a beautiful garden, where she cared for each bush in her garden thoughtfully,
through her caring and gentle nature. In April 1958, Sindamynee married Moses Satrohan. They welcomed five children together, two daughters, Evan and Monica, and three sons, Philbert, Leyand, and Michael. She ensured her five children also dedicated their lives to God, and frequently took them to church. Things were not always easy; Sindamynee worked in the cane fields in Backdam under the grueling heat of Guyana to provide and care for her five children. In the 1980s, Sindamynee and her children immigrated to the United States in Bronx, NY. After living in the Bronx for several years, in the 1990s, she and her children then relocated to South Ozone Park, Queens, where they made a home for themselves. It was here where she spent time with her ten grandchildren. She became a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, caring for them and making sure to impart her wisdom onto them. At this home, she also established a beautiful garden, as the one she had back in Guyana. Sindamynee continued with her faith, regularly watching Christian services on TV when she could not attend church, praying every day and singing hymns to her grandchildren. Sindamynee loved her family - and that warm love was felt in her home. She had a warm smile and contagious laugh, both often making appearances during her deep conversions, where she shared her passions. Sindamynee “Mavis” was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her five children: Evan Bishun (& husband, Doodnauth), Monica Satrohan (& husband, Kenny), Philbert Satrohan (& wife, Sabo), Leyand Satrohan (& wife, Christine), and Micheal Sattrohan. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Daniel, Michele, Robert, Malessa, Vanessa, Leeza, Lawrence, Jessica, Sean, and Sophia, and her six great-grandchildren (Dylan, Ariana, Sameer, Matthew, Benjamin, & Nora).
