Miguel Mendez's Obituary
Miguel Mendez, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, passed away on April 12, 2025. He was 58 years old.
One of Miguel's proudest accomplishments was his nearly 30-year dedication to Local 79, where he served as a shop steward. His work in the union was more than a job - it was a passion and a purpose that brought him great joy. He believed in the power of unity and solidarity, and he lived the values of Union for Life every day.
Miguel was known for his big heart, his loyalty to those he loved, and his free spirit. He lived life on his own terms, always staying true to himself. He cherished his family deeply and carried himself with pride, authenticity, and warmth.
His presence will be missed, but his legacy as a devoted union man, a loving family member, and a genuine soul will live on.
He leaves behind his two sons, Ramon Muniz and Juan Muniz; his beloved sister, Rosario Mendez; his sister-in-law, Wanda Arias, the love of his life, Olivia Haley, and his best friend and brother, Guy Payne.
He will be dearly missed by his nieces: Doreen Mendez, Diana Camacho, Lissette Arias, Chelsea Arias, Chelsea Arroy, Niya, Destiny, Marilyn, and Katie Mendez; and his nephews: Miguel Camacho, Devin Acosta, Sal, Julius, Gio, Jonas, Josiah, and David Mendez. His legacy lives on through six cherished grandnieces and grandnephews.
