Gregory Mathurine's Obituary
Gregory Kenneth Mathurine, affectionately known as “Rabbit” or “Omar,” passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 30, 1952, in Trinidad and Tobago to the late Sylvan and Marie Mathurine.
Gregory attended Petit Valley Boys’ R.C. School and Tranquility Secondary School before continuing his education at Port Authority Trade School. In 1975, he migrated to the United States to reunite with his parents and siblings. He worked as a skilled tradesman with the New York City Housing Authority, where he was admired for his dedication and craftsmanship.
Gregory later returned to Trinidad, where he met and married his then wife, Ann Marie Mathurine-Saunders. Together, they moved back to the United States and built a life filled with love, family, and strength. They were blessed with three wonderful children: Guion, Guyon, and Arkasha.
Gregory is survived by his children, Guion, Guyon, and Arkasha; and his three beloved grandsons: Karaun, Zion, and Ashton. He is also survived by his brothers, Brian and Frankie; and his sisters, Joycelyn, Jemma, and Jacqueline. He is preceded in death by his brother Sunny. Gregory leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
His presence will be deeply missed, his legacy remembered, and his spirit forever in our hearts.
