Raymond
It is with profound sadness reflecting on my sister's life; it was a journey of love, resilience , dedicated family responsibilities and the demonstration of indomitable strength to improve the lives of families , relatives and friends in beautiful Guyana , the land of her birth and the United States , the greatest country in the world where she and her family immigrated to in 1986.
Dee ,being the oldest daughter of our parents, (deceased) Sankars of Herstelling, Demerara , Guyana was always a caring and loving daughter to our parents and a wonderful sister to her younger siblings , Mr Dennis , Raymond, pretty and caring Debbie, lovable Bhago (deceased) and athlete Jag Sankar. Dee and our older brother , Rickie Sankar of London always had a close affinity and fondly relationship ; he nicknamed her 'Molly'!!! Many times he ensured he visited her and other family members in Guyana, New York and North Carolina ; his recent was October,2024 when he heard of her declining health conditions.
Affectionately and beautiful Dee married in the year of 1960 to our dedicated , affable and conscientious hardworking brother-in-law , Mr. Singh (deceased)) of the County of Essequibo , Guyana and they had an enduring loving relationship until his passing in 2021. Dee also developed a caring and loving relationship with her in-laws.
Dee dedicated her life by working earnestly, prudently managing the home, despite the rigours and long hours at the work place where she exuded ,loyalty, commitment , charm and 'tender loving care' to all , travelling daily from Hollis ,Jamaica ,Queens to Manhattan., 'snow, rain or sun'!!! or the tragic 9/11 when 36 Guyanese were killed among the over 3000 deaths due to the sinister terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. She was determined to make America her new home and a better pathway for her family seeing Guyana was still saddled with a racist militarized dictatorship, rigged elections, coupled with an exodus of Guyanese to foreign lands due to the undemocratic rule!!! Things became scary also when Cult Leader, Jim Jones was given permission to set up camp, THe Peoples' Temple in Guyana where he killed almost 1000 American citizens!!!
Dee's life could be characterized as one of personal sacrifice , faithfulness ,modest living and full of love, all in the endeavour to achieve betterment for her family , children and grandchildren worthy of emulation. Admittedly , it was a remarkable family achievement punctuated by fortitude ,perseverance, trials and tribulations despite the 'hard road to travel'!!
My deepest sympathy to my loving niece, Nadira and family, my dedicated nephew, Andrew and family, my past loving niece, Nalini (gone but would never be forgotten; she was such a wonderful person also) and her family.
Dee was dearly loved by all of us ; she had that motherly traits of caring and concern for us , even when our mother was around that she tried to choose and approve my wife!!!
It's a nice humorous little story we talked about and she would express that loud infectious laughter of hers'!!Dennis as usual let the secret out of the bag!!
Dee was a wonderful daughter ,loving sister to us , dedicated wife, ensuring the home was beautiful, safe and comfortable for the family , relatives and guests of Mr. Singh, maybe sipping some Banks Beer or XM aged Rum !! Mostly , she was a loving mother and grandmother , lovable Aunt and had a caring feeling for her many friends .
She will be sadly missed .
May her soul rest in peace,
God bless.
