Dereck Ross' Obituary
Dereck Ross was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, son and friend. With no prior warning Dereck passed away on August 29th, 2025, at Samaritan Hospital in Albany, NY. He was 59 years old.
Throughout his lifetime as a basketball fan, Dereck had some of his best memories at Strikers Sports bar watching the games. His smiles and cheers at every three-point curry score brought life to any game; and he was more passionate than anybody. Dereck had a lot of hobbies including: Football, Cricket, dominos, dancing and listening to great music.
Dereck was born in Georgetown, Guyana on May 23rd, 1966 to his late parents Carol Brazon and Sidney Ross.
He attended Huston Primary School. He later entered the world of work at the age of 17. He started his career at Bank DIH Limited, where he worked for 16 years. He then went to Sterling Limited where he worked for 20 years. He resigned in May 2025. Dereck was known for his generous spirit, love and kindness. Nobody could ever dislike Dereck. He was always there when we needed him. We will always carry him in our hearts and continue his helping and caring spirit.
Dereck is survived by his loving and caring wife Shavon. He calls her Shiv. They met in March of 2011, she then migrated that same year. She would visit 3 to 4 times a year until they decided to get married in August 2019. He said that was the best day of his life.
He is also survived by his 6 children, two grandchildren and ready-made granddaughter who loves him dearly.
As well as being survived by his siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends (too many to mention), and his in-laws.
Dereck, we're surely going to miss you.
After Glow-
I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways
of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve
to dry before the sun
of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
Rest in peace, Dereck, until we meet again.
