Angelica Pantoja's Obituary
Angelica Pantoja, lovingly known as Luz Angelica Pantoja, passed away on January 21, 2025, in Queens, New York, at the age of 68. She was born on December 5, 1956, in Cali, Colombia, and her life was a testament to faith, love, resilience, and joy. Angelica came to the United States with her young son, Jahn Ramirez, at just 3 years old, bravely facing the challenges of a new country and language. Through unwavering determination, she worked tirelessly to build a better life for her family while balancing the demands of being a full-time mother and employee. Her hard work culminated in earning a bachelor’s degree from York College in Queens, NY, an accomplishment that inspired those around her.
In 1982, Angelica married Victor Pantoja, who became a loving husband and father to Jahn. Together, they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Ashley Pantoja, and fulfilled a lifelong dream of purchasing their first home. Angelica’s entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she opened her own hair salon, where she became a beloved member of her community.
Angelica’s life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, which guided her every step. She was a phenomenal cook whose meals brought comfort and joy to everyone at her table, and she was known for her remarkable talent as the best salsa dancer in the world. Her warmth and strength enriched the lives of her family, including her granddaughter Savannah Ramirez, whom she loved dearly. Though she never had the chance to meet her younger grandchildren—JJ Ramirez, Steel Ramirez, and Scarlett Ramirez—her love and legacy will live on through them and in the memories of her family. Despite the challenges of a traumatic heart attack in January 2018 that left her in a coma-like state, Angelica’s legacy of love, determination, and devotion remains a guiding light for her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to causes Angelica held dear, including nature conservation, animal welfare, children’s charities, or your local church, in her honor.
