Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Shirley Singh, a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of all who knew her. Shirley's journey began in Georgetown, Guyana, where she was born to Eustace and Maisie Jeffrey. In search of new opportunities, she and her devoted husband, Harry Singh, made the brave decision to start a new chapter in the United States, arriving on August 12th, 1983.
Shirley's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, compassion, and dedication. As a Home Health Care Professional, she selflessly cared for others, providing comfort, support, and healing. Her nurturing spirit and genuine kindness touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an enduring impact on those in her care.
Shirley was a woman of many talents and passions. Her nimble fingers crafted beautiful knitted and crocheted pieces, reflecting her creativity and talent. Her sewing skills allowed her to fashion garments with care and precision. Her creations were not only tangible gifts but also symbols of her affection and thoughtfulness. She was a skilled cook and baker delighting in preparing delicious meals such as roti and curry, cook-up rice, and her Christmas specialties, pepperpot and black cake. Mmm, it was finger licking good! These would bring smiles to the faces of her loved ones. Shirley's culinary delights brought joy to countless gatherings, her dishes representing both her heritage and her ability to bring people together. And when the music played, Shirley's feet effortlessly glided across the dance floor, particularly enjoying the elegance of the waltz. These hobbies not only brought her personal fulfillment but also served as a means of expressing her love for those around her (you should have seen her and her brother, Micheal on the dance floor, winning all the ballroom contests).
Some of Shirley's favorite quotes were:
"Never miss the water til the well run dry."
"Children should be seen, not heard."
"You make your bed, you lie in it,"
and "Old man can't run but he can ketch."
Above all else, Shirley cherished her family. She was a devoted wife to Harry, providing him with unwavering love and support throughout their journey together. As a mother, she poured her heart into raising Teddy, Nigel, and Alicia, nurturing their dreams and guiding them with love and compassion. Shirley's heart overflowed with joy when she became a grandmother to Nigel Jr., Ashley, Avianna, Alani, Ajay, Aiden, Alicia, Kendra, Andy, and Emily. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the moments spent together, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Shirley's siblings, Vybert, Michael, Vincent, and Sandra, formed an unbreakable bond with her. Though the family experienced the pain of losing Morris and Rudolph, Shirley's memory will forever be cherished within the hearts of her surviving siblings.
The love and care provided by son-in-law Kenny and daughter-in-law Myrna brought Shirley immeasurable happiness. Their presence in her life brought comfort and support, creating a strong and loving family unit that she held dear.
Shirley also leaves behind surviving, countless cousins, nieces, nephews ,family and friends--way too many to list.
As we bid farewell to Shirley today, let us remember her infectious laughter, her warm embrace, and the love she shared with all those around her. Her legacy of love, resilience, and passion will continue to inspire us all.
Shirley, may your soul find eternal peace, and may your memory be a blessing and a guiding light, reminding us to embrace life fully and cherish the bonds of family and friendship.
Thank you.
