Rookmin Persaud was born on April 21,1943 at Thomas Street, Kitty. She was the fourth in a line of the thirteen children born to the late Surujpaul and Josada A.K.A. Pinky Bhagwandeen. As a late teenager she went to Triumph Village to help her aunt “Doris” to take care of her young children. It was with one of these visits she met our late father Sookdeo Persaud A.K.A Baboo who was so astonished with her beauty decided to throw her coconut while he was rowing in the trench which became the catalyst for their marriage in November, 1958. They took up residence in Triumph Village where the union produced ten children, the children who are all here today are Evelyn, Bibi, Buddy, Dun Dun, Alvin, Savitri, Mahendra, Lolita, Nalini, and Niranjan. She was also blessed with 24 grandchildren and one great grandson.
On September 5, 1991 tragedy struck our family when our beloved father Baboo passed away, this resulting in our mother becoming a very young widow. From thereon, she was the nucleus of our existence. She dedicated her life to her family her siblings, parents, nephews, nieces, and she was truly loved by everyone.
Since majority of her children lived in St. Martin she decided to spend a period of time there before she migrated to the USA in January of 1995. Here she sacrificed and devoted herself to create a better life for us. After all her hard work she took up residence in Richmond Hill, NY until her passing on August 11, 2018 at 4:24 AM at the age of 75.
So today as we say goodbye to our idol, icon and the heart of our family we all pray that God grant her soul eternal peace and we hope that we shall one day all be reunited with her. Our family is deeply indebted to our sister Lolita who wholeheartedly took care of our mother during her times of poor health.
Today, as she leaves this world she is leaving a void in our hearts which can never be filled. We will miss her tremendously and the things she stood for; the good; the bad; the funny; and her outspokenness
So, mom thank you for taking care of our family for all these years and keeping us together. Goodbye to you, have a safe journey home. We love you today, tomorrow and forever and, we only hope and pray that you can continue to bless us, and watch over us from above, because for us you will be in our hearts forever.
THANK YOU
