Stan Gockel
I will never forget meeting Rev. Shipp at a conference on urban ministry in the early 1980s. I believe our paths crossed at a subsequent conference and perhaps at one or more American Baptist Churches biennial conventions. He was a larger-than-life presence with a dynamic, booming voice. I remember his story of getting fired from his church and have used it as a sermon illustration several times. I will always be grateful that I got to meet him and wish his family all comfort and peace in their time of grief.
